Windmill Wildflowers 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

A project which has been waiting patiently in my Electric Quilt files to make a debut as a virtual quilt.

I am loving the designs I can create using the block collection I have put together.

Interesting.

I like the second one best, but both need some more play time.

Unique Umbrella Flower 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I was playing with a flower with 3 droopy petals, and tried adding more petals without spaces in between, and thought they looked a bit like a very pretty umbrella.

Floral umbrellas may not be waterproof, but they make pretty quilt designs, and without getting my hands dirty in the mud.

Monday today, washing day, so hopefully no rain!

Logs in the Garden 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Very formal garden!

Love the applique border in the second design, but a bit disappointed as I hoped that the soft colours of the Log Cabin blocks in the background would be more effective.

Like the extra flowers in the centre.

Now the Log Cabin part of the quilt is demanding attention! That’s more like what I was hoping for.

I think I will have some fun mixing up the formal garden with a heap of logs!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 25, 26 from Virtual Quilter

The centre of the first design is pretty much what a Brunsvigia flower looks like, though because they take ten years to start flowering after you plant the bulbs I have seen only one in the last five years, when one of the bulbs I have in my current garden flowered way earlier than expected.

I am looking forward to seeing a lot of flowers in about 2027in both front and back gardens.

In the mean time, I am looking forward to seeing gladiolas in my garden this year, with the second batch of bulbs just starting to peep out ...

Desert Flora 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

A reminder to me … plant those seeds soon! Need to find a rather dry corner of the garden.

Memories of home include Sturt Desert Peas near the back door every year!

If all else fails I might have to make a wall hanging to bring out each spring.

Now I think of it, a few days ago I was thinking that we need another quilt or two for our bed. This year there has been lots of days with scattered showers … not the sort of weather to wash even one of our two quilts as it has also been very ...

Poppies in a Spin 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I started drawing some poppy designs, then got distracted by some spinoff!

I saw some blocks with spinning designs, and I thought why not spin the poppies.

I have decided to share the designs as it is at least ten years since I started playing with poppies, about the time our first spin dryer stopped working, and since then it has been heard keeping up with what’s new on the market for spin dryers, as we have bought about five of them. Sometime I may even try to untangle the spinning stems to make them workable designs.

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Love this project file and all the designs in it.

The layouts are based on pieced blocks created with squares and rectangles … no odd angles.

This is one feature of Electric quilt I should utilize more as I like the results every time i do use it!

Floral Wedding OP 37, 38 from Virtual Quilter

Very pretty.

Beautiful.

Mind you, I would need about ten years notice of the wedding for it to arrive on the day!

After Pompeii OP 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

Busy, busy , busy!

Not overly impressed by the border, but I like the rest of the design.

A little bit of blank space for the eyes to rest, and I like the busy parts of the second design.

Like it … even the empty spaces which just need some quilting lines …

… or some applique!

Move the applique blocks and replace four part Wedding Rings with just the leafy joins and I love it!

Flower with No Name 1 from Virtual Quilter

This is the first in a series of designs using blocks I have drawn of unidentified flowers, based on my own not very great drawing skill. Even if I start with a real live flower from my garden I have problems getting a good likeness, so I am asking for some help to give these flowers a name. I usually start my virtual planting with some crossed designs, but often add wreaths, upright border plant, and quite a few other various styles which may, or may not, be found in traditional style quilts. Maybe while I wait for some help ...

Virtual Challenge November 2019 from Virtual Quilter

This month I challenge you to draw a flower. It doesn’t have to be complex. The simplest flower you can draw is a circle, or you can use a flower head from an Electric Quilt Library block. Leaves are optional at this point.

Once you have your basic flower head, start playing. I mean really start playing. This project file could keep growing and growing over time, like any healthy garden, and will survive better than a real garden if neglected through droughts or flooding rain or whatever nature throws at your real garden.

The block above started life ...

Felicity Anderson Quilts 30 from Virtual Quilter

I often have difficulty finding a background for white and almost white appliques. I am not keen on the yellow, but at least the lilies are clearly visible.
